About the Scholarship
The Constable Brett Ryan Memorial Scholarship, awarded through the In Their Honour Foundation, supports a graduating high school student who is pursuing a career as a first responder or healthcare professional, and who exemplifies the compassion, courage, and
dedication that Cst. Brett Ryan personified.
He gave his today for our tomorrow.
Brett’s Legacy
Brett Ryan lived a life defined by service. As a paramedic, firefighter, and police officer, he exemplified the very best of what it means to be a first responder. Beyond the uniform, Brett was deeply selfless—always placing the needs of others before his own. He led with quiet strength, humility, and unwavering integrity. Those who knew him remember his kindness, dependability, and fierce loyalty to family, colleagues, and community.Through this scholarship, we seek to support students who reflect these same values and who aspire to serve others with the same heart, courage, and purpose.
Scholarship Details
- Award Amount: $500
- Application Deadline: Annually on or before June 1st
- Geographic Eligibility: Open to students residing in or attending high school in Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, or Parkland County in Alberta
- Award Announcement: Annually on or before June 30th
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be graduating from high school in the current academic year.
- Be accepted into a recognized post-secondary program leading to a career as a:– First responder (e.g., paramedic, firefighter, police officer), or– Healthcare professional (e.g., nurse, physician, mental health practitioner).
- Demonstrate strong academic performance.
- Exhibit personal qualities Brett embodied: courage, compassion, leadership, selflessness, integrity, humility, and more.
- Show financial need.
- Demonstrate community involvement or volunteer service related to their career goals.

- Personal Statement (500–750 words)
- High School Transcript
- Proof of Acceptance into a qualifying program
- One Reference Letter (optional second reference or volunteer documentation)
